New page! Apologies for that taking so long. I do not intend for that to happen again, I assure you.
So I’m ditching my old watercolors but I’m wanting to keep the same aesthetic as before. The watercolors were cheap and looked kind of chalky and don’t scan well in my opinion. Last page I tested out in marker. With this page I did a few parts in market for the control and used acrylic ink for the rest. Gives the same effect of watercolor, only more vibrant. It scans better, too.
Starcrossed is officially back up! Not that it was ever down but I can make posts again! Yay!
To all of my readers, I would like to thank you so much for bearing with me. I apologize for the unintentionally long hiatus. I had some problems with the PHP memory limit on my former server that I was never able to get resolved. It kept me from being able to make posts (except comments, oddly enough) and I couldn’t edit anything in Comicpress. So now I have a new host and registered my own domain, which is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.
I’m currently working on a new page which will be up soon. As far as a set schedule, it depends on how things play out. I have a full time job and some other things that are also keeping me busy. That being said, I do plan on updating as frequently as I can. I promise I won’t go away for months on end without announcing a hiatus first (unless, you know, I can’t post on my site again
).
So for those of you who have stuck around, thank you. A new page will be up soon.
In the meantime if you’re on Tumblr, I’m always looking for new people on there.
I also post a lot of other artwork on there including work in progress shots and various sketches. Feel free to check it out here!
So I’m thinking of giving away the watercolor comic pages as donation incentives (starting with page 19 of chapter 3). Would this be something people are interested in? Unless there’s a page I’m particularly attached to, I’d rather send them to others to enjoy than just stash them away on a shelf in my basement. It would probably be a fairly high price (I was think $50 gets you the pick of whatever page is available). They’re 10″ x 16″ and I would ship them in a poster tube.
Also I’m looking for ideas for smaller donation incentives (like $5 or $10 USD). Sketch cards, maybe? Small prints?

Hey, Everyone! I am posting to inform you as to the status of the next page of the comic. I will be moving to updating Tuesdays.
Currently I am working as a pizza delivery driver until the start of the school year at which time I intend to get back into substitute teaching. I live in the Midwest where temperatures have been over 100 degrees for the past couple of weeks and my car does not have air conditioning. When I am not making deliveries, I tend the oven at the store. Getting out in the heat to make deliveries is the cooler option, really. The shifts are short, but the heat has been taking a LOT out of me recently. I haven’t been working on comic pages, or anything really. It’s all I can do to water my plants after work.
I’m off Sundays and Mondays, so I plan to use those days to recuperate and draw the new page in that time.
Also, don’t hold me to this but when I get back into teaching and have the energy, I want to try to bump my updates to twice a week. I must be weird, but the watercolors are actually quicker than coloring digitally. Go figure.
I haven’t updated in the past two weeks because I’ve been dealing with the fact that I just ended my relationship of over six years with my significant other. Things are okay, we’re still friends, I even started dating again (which is really weird). I hate to say I skipped updates because I wasn’t in the mood, but there you go. I consoled myself by buying hooker-red lip gloss so things are okay now.
So yeah. Expect a new page on Tuesday!
I’m facing a bit of a dilemma. I’m considering switching from Photoshop to watercolor or marker when I color future comic pages for Starcrossed.
Anymore making a new page is like pulling teeth, not because I don’t enjoy the comic itself, but because I’m just bored with digital art anymore. If you’ve followed my other artwork recently, you’ll see I’ve been doing a lot of watercolor and honestly I enjoy it. The only time I do digital coloring anymore is here.
I’m trying to find something that sets my stuff apart stylistically from other webcomics and there aren’t really a lot of comics done in traditional media anymore. My watercolors have been getting a pretty good response recently.
I’ve always said Starcrossed has been a learning exercise of sorts, this is my first story driven comic, and I still feel like I’m finding my style. I don’t want to settle in on something I’m bored with.
My only hesitation is consistency. It would be a huge departure from how the colors look now so I’m wanting some feedback from readers.
If you want an idea of what my watercolors would look like, here’s some of my sketches. The pics in my sketchbook section are life drawings and took about 10-15 minutes to do, so drawings for the comic would be more cleaned up, obviously. But that’s the gist of it. And most of those are burlesque models, so some NSFW stuff in parts but nothing too explicit.
Anyway, I kind of feel like I’ve made up my mind but still want to know what you guys think. ![]()
Also in terms of really artsy comics, I recommend checking out any of Dave McKean’s graphic novels, specifically Batman Arkham Asylum or Black Orchid (Black Orchid is my favorite) if you want to see full on paintings in comic form. He’s one of my favorite artists and his collaborations with Neil Gaiman are brilliant.
I realized I hadn’t posted a link here, yet so I shall fix this now.
I finally got my portfolio site up and running. If you happened to check out the comic strip in the previous blog post, it was in reference to that. In short my girlfriend may hate coding, but she’s way better at it than I am.
Also I am currently taking commissions and selling prints and paintings through my website. Be sure to check them out.
